Tree of Codes
WITH DANCERS FROM PARIS OPERA BALLET AND COMPANY WAYNE MCGREGOR
An explosion of contemporary ballet, visual art and electronic music from world-leading artists at the peak of their powers, Tree of Codes will unseat everything you thought you knew about performance.
Choreographer Wayne McGregor joins forces with visual artist Olafur Eliasson and music sensation Jamie xx to produce a new type of modern dance layering classical and contemporary styles onto the bodies of soloists and dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet—one of the greatest ballet companies on the planet—and Company Wayne McGregor. The union of this dazzling array of art-makers has resulted in a stage event of astonishing reach that captures the spirit of its age like no other.
Jonathan Safran Foer's curious novel Tree of Codes saw the acclaimed author reworking Bruno Schulz's already cryptic 1934 story collection The Street of Crocodiles by taking to the text with a blade, creating a new tale from the old. Now some of the world's most incisive artists have been inspired to create with equally unexpected results, producing an ever-growing visual feast of light, colour, motion and sound.
This is the only Australian opportunity to see Tree of Codes in its original form: featuring dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet and Company Wayne McGregor. Don’t miss a work that has sold out performances around the world, and that has altered the artistic landscape wherever it lands.
